Our purpose
Beauty Tool Atlas helps readers understand beauty tools, ingredients, routines and product claims. We aim to make evidence, practical trade-offs, safety limits and commercial relationships easy to see.
We are an editorial publication, not a healthcare provider or professional practice. Our content is general consumer information. Beauty Tool Atlas does not assess or diagnose an individual, create a treatment plan, prescribe, dispense, perform a controlled or restricted health activity, or provide individualized medical or other regulated professional advice. Our content is not a substitute for advice from an appropriately licensed professional who knows your condition & situation.
Beauty Tool Atlas, its editorial roles and its evidence labels do not confer a licence, registration or professional designation. We use a regulated or protected professional title only for a person who is legally entitled to use it in the relevant jurisdiction and whose status we have independently verified.
How we choose topics
We prioritize questions that can materially affect a reader's safety, routine or purchasing decision. Topic selection may be informed by reader questions, new research, product availability and common marketing claims.
Commercial availability does not by itself determine what we cover or the conclusion we reach.
How we research
Writers must keep a source record for factual and health-related claims. We prefer sources appropriate to the question, including:
- systematic reviews and evidence-based professional guidance;
- primary research when broader synthesis is unavailable;
- regulators and public-health authorities;
- recognized standards and manufacturer technical documentation for
specifications or instructions.
We distinguish a product specification from independent evidence that the product produces a claimed benefit. A source being published does not make every conclusion equally reliable; study design, population, size, funding, comparators and applicability matter.
Evidence labels
Our evidence labels summarize the type, consistency and applicability of the support behind a claim:
- Strong: consistent, relevant evidence with important limitations unlikely
- Moderate: useful support with meaningful limitations or some
- Limited: early, indirect, small or inconsistent evidence;
- Expert consensus: practice guidance or qualified judgment used where
- Practical guide: instructions or decision support that should not be read
to reverse the main conclusion;
inconsistency;
direct comparative evidence is limited;
as proof of a health outcome.
These labels are editorial assessments, not medical grades or guarantees. The full Evidence Rating Methodology should explain the assessment factors and review process.
Independent subject-matter review
Content involving health claims, contraindications or questions that require regulated professional judgment must be reviewed before publication by a real person whose current licence or other relevant qualification has been verified for the assigned scope. The review is an editorial quality-control activity; Beauty Tool Atlas and its reviewer do not establish a practitioner-client or professional-client relationship with a reader.
The reviewer comments on the accuracy, balance, limitations and safety framing of the exact editorial version identified in our records. Review of one version does not automatically approve later material changes.
A review does not mean that the reviewer endorses every product mentioned, certifies that a product is safe or effective for every person, or provides personal care or individualized instructions to readers.
Product and tool reviews
A review must state, where relevant:
- how the product was obtained;
- whether it was purchased, borrowed or supplied;
- who performed the evaluation and the relevant use context;
- the test period, procedure and conditions;
- what was measured and what was subjectively observed;
- safety, usability and evidence limitations;
- price and the date it was checked;
- relevant financial or affiliate relationships.
We do not publish invented measurements or imply hands-on testing when only desk research occurred. A product-performance representation must be supported by the evidence or adequate and proper testing required for that representation. Products cannot be ranked until required provenance, evidence and testing fields are complete.
We do not present a food, drug, cosmetic or device as a treatment, preventative or cure where public advertising law prohibits that representation. Product coverage must distinguish permitted product information and editorial analysis from a prohibited therapeutic or disease claim.
Receiving a sample does not guarantee coverage or a favorable conclusion.
Ratings and recommendations
Ratings and recommendations must follow a documented method suited to the category. We consider performance, safety, usability, evidence, durability, value and suitability as applicable.
We explain important trade-offs and identify who may wish to skip a product. There may be no universal “best” choice. Price, popularity and commission rate do not prove quality.
Independence and commercial relationships
Advertising, sponsorship, affiliate links, free products and other material relationships must be disclosed clearly. Commercial partners may not buy ratings, rankings, favorable coverage or the removal of a warranted correction.
Sponsored content, if accepted, will be labelled clearly and governed by a separate written policy. The final commercial model and disclosures must be approved before launch.
Authors, reviewers and conflicts
Public biographies describe relevant experience without implying a licence, protected title, authorization or credential a person does not hold. Editorial job titles such as “Founder & Beauty Research Editor” identify internal responsibilities only; they do not represent authorization to practise a regulated profession. Authors and reviewers must disclose relationships that a reasonable reader could consider relevant, including employment, consulting, ownership, gifts and brand relationships.
Where a conflict cannot be appropriately managed through disclosure and independent review, the person should not handle that assignment.
Updating our work
Every substantive item receives a scheduled review date based on topic risk and how quickly the information may change. We may update an article sooner when new evidence, safety information, regulation or product details warrant it.
Material changes should be recorded in a visible change history. Minor spelling, formatting or clarity edits do not always require a public entry.
Corrections
We welcome specific correction requests. We assess them against the cited record, consult the appropriate author or reviewer when needed, and preserve an internal decision trail.
When a correction materially changes meaning, safety advice, evidence assessment, rating or recommendation, we will identify what changed and the date. A fuller Corrections Policy will state the contact route and response targets before launch.
Use of automation and AI
Automated tools may assist with organization, transcription, quality checks or drafting, but they do not replace source verification, accountable editing or qualified review. We do not publish a factual claim merely because an automated system generated it. The accountable editor remains responsible for the final published version.
Accessibility and reader privacy
We use WCAG 2.2 AA as our working standard and present disclosures, tables, citations and safety information in usable formats. Our accessibility process includes manual keyboard, screen-reader, reflow and zoom testing in addition to automated checks.
Forms, analytics, newsletters and advertising technologies must not be enabled in production until their data handling, consent, retention and deletion requirements are documented and approved.
